Dear LOSD Families,

Welcome back to the 2023-2024 school year! I hope you have all had a great summer creating fun memories!!

We are excited to reconnect with your student(s) in our 5 schools. We value your partnership in your students’ learning experience and look forward to engaging with you in various activities throughout the year.  Please join us at the LOSD Back to School BBQ on August 19, 2023.

2022-2023 Annual Report

In late June, we shared with all families our LOSD Annual Report.  We are so proud of all the work that our staff has done over the last year and all that we have accomplished together.  Please take a moment to read the report so you can learn and stay informed on how our schools are supporting your students and the community.

Our Goals

  • Creating spaces where all students, staff, and parents feel like they belong -  This begins with providing exceptional customer service. We value your input and participation in the learning process.  Last year we launched a new Parent App called ParentSquare that provides quick and easy access to everything that is happening in the district and information from your students' schools (in a secure platform). The app will also provide an updated means of communicating via text messages (to all staff), app notifications, and calendar syncing to improve our communication with you throughout the year.

  • Academic Achievement - We have continued to work on enhancing the curriculum at all levels, providing more educational opportunities for all learners, and setting achievement goals that will give your student a firm foundation for lifelong learning.  This year we are implementing two new core curriculum, Social Studies and English Language Development at the elementary level.

  • Social Emotional Learning and Brain Health Supports - We continue to provide mental health clinicians at each school and work with our community agencies to support our student’s needs.  We will also continue with our Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) work to holistically support all students.

Our Two Major Initiatives

Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and California Community School Partnership Program (CCSPP) are our two major initiatives.  They are not intended to be seen as two separate initiatives.  They are very much integrated.

An equity centered community schools approach and a holistic MTSS framework serve the entire community. The overarching structure of the California Multi-Tiered System of Support Framework enables the success of a community school. Community schools are a whole-child and whole community approach with a hyper local focus serving the unique community in which they exist. CA MTSS provides a framework for practitioners and partners to understand and organize their work as part of a community school strategy. The community school framework extends these efforts beyond the school walls to create better conditions for learning, remove barriers, address root causes, as well as promote healthy stable neighborhoods. Working seamlessly together, these two frameworks create school AND community ecosystems where all families thrive and flourish.

I wholeheartedly thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education.  It is an honor to serve you and your families.  We are very excited to welcome your students to our schools and look forward to seeing them on our first day of school, Wednesday, August 9, 2023. Please review our District Calendar on our website, www.losd.ca, to see the back to school nights at each school.
