LOSD Food Lab and Future Farm

Live Oak School District (LOSD) has set the goal of offering nutrition, culinary, and agricultural education opportunities for all students. At LOSD, we believe that serving quality meals in the cafeteria is just a start in providing our students with great nutrition. By adding the Food Lab program, inspired by Pacific Elementary in Davenport, LOSD has increased scratch-cooked menu options for students while providing culinary and nutrition education. LOSD currently has Life Lab gardens at Del Mar Elementary, Green Acres Elementary, Live Oak Elementary, and Shoreline Middle School. We are currently working to add a Nutrition and Education Farm. By creating a district run farm LOSD can significantly expand the amount of organic produce served to students and expand agricultural education opportunities for our students and our community.

Losd NUTRITION Mission Statement

Our vision is to create a community of health. In our community of schools, we feed our students high-quality, nutrient-dense meals that they LOVE to eat. By providing healthy and delicious school meals paired with nutrition education, culinary education, and education about local agriculture, we help lay the foundation for our students to be healthy eaters for life. We know families play a vital role in the health of our community. In our district, we provide community resources including classes, newsletters, and recipes because everyone's health matters. Good meals start with good ingredients. We source our ingredients responsibly and support local and just food systems that reflect our community's values and minimize the negative impact on the environment.
