Positive Behavior Supports

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture and needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success.

One of the foremost advances in School-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports is the emphasis on school-wide systems of support that include proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments. Within each school a continuum of positive behavior support for all students is implemented in areas including the classroom and non-classroom settings (such as hallways, cafeteria, and restrooms).

The overall outcome of PBIS is to ensure ALL students have access to the most effective and accurately implemented instructional and behavioral practices and interventions possible. To do so, each school site has PBIS teams that meet monthly to apply data-based decision-making for interventions and create student behavioral and academic support systems specific to the culture and needs of students at each school site.
