After School Education & Safety Program (ASES)

ASES (After School Education & Safety) Program

The After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program is the result of the 2002 voter-approved initiative, Proposition 49. ASES Program funds the establishment of local after-school education and enrichment programs. These programs are created to provide literacy and academic enrichment and safe constructive activities for students.

We are pleased to announce that beginning in February 2007, again in October 2010, and most recently in 2016, the Live Oak School District was awarded a State ASES grant. This funding provides Live Oak, Green Acres, and Del Mar Elementary Schools with an after-school enrichment and academic support program for students who qualify. This program operates on school days only (excluding winter, spring & summer), until 6:00 pm.

Due to the high demand for this program, the ASES Program recruits students who are in the 1st-5th grade, and who need additional academic support according to their annual test scores. Enrollment is based on principal and teacher referrals, and then if positions are still available, on a first-come, first-served basis. Our goal for the ASES Program is to provide a fun, safe, supportive, and stimulating environment for students who are in need of extra academic assistance. We believe that students who participate in the ASES Program will increase their overall success in school, improve their test scores, and will make safer choices outside of school.

All after-school students receive daily homework assistance. Our dedicated staff maintains daily contact with families and classroom teachers. This communication helps create a safe, educational and nurturing environment for the children. It also builds a strong bond between home and school.
We provide daily enrichment activities within our classrooms based on enhancing the Common Core grade-level curriculum pacing guide, including extended activities in Art, Science, Math and Language Arts. We provide Tae Kwon Do classes and swimming lesson field trips to our local swimming pool as well as on-site enrichment activities such as Nourishing Generations cooking classes for 3-5th graders and Music and Movement classes for K-2nd grades.

ASES (After School Education and Safety) Program

The Live Oak School District-ASES program offers an excellent after school program that recruits students 1st-5th grade at Live Oak, Del Mar and Green Acres Elementary Schools. It provides students with an extension of the school day. Students participate 5 days a week from the end of their school day until 6pm. The ASES program provides an opportunity to merge school reform strategies with community resources. The goal is to support local efforts to improve assistance to students and broaden the base of support for education in a safe, constructive environment. Students are provided with an hour of academic support and homework assistance, an hour of enrichment "hands on" learning, physical education and snack each day. The program is funded by a state grant that resulted from the 2002 voter-approved initiative, Proposition 49.
